- ANIMA Euro-Mediterranean Network of Investment Promotion Agencies
- ANIMA's primary goal is to reinforce the capabilities of the investment promotion
agencies (IPAs) in 12 target countries in the Mediterranean. This is in the framework
of the MEDA co-operation programme between the European Union and 12 partner states to
the South and East of the Mediterranean (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon,
Malta, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey). The ultimate goal of the
network is to increase foreign direct investment flows in the Mediterranean region. The
site contains information on country and sector perspectives but also on success stories.
It also provides recent foreign investment projects by sector in the target countries.
- Currency
Information
- A site for looking up the name of the currency used by
any country and for obtaining exchange rates. The site has
over 180 currencies in over 250 geographical locations.
- Eurostat
- Data on FDI flows and stocks of the EU25 for the period
2001-03 is available from Eurostat. Eurostat is the Statistical
Office of the European Communities situated in Luxembourg.
Its task is to provide the European Union with statistics
at European level that enable comparisons between countries
and regions.
- Foreign Investment Advisory Services (FIAS)
- FIAS is a multi-donor service of IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group; the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA); and the World Bank. FIAS advises governments of developing and transition countries on how to improve their investment climates for domestic and foreign investors. FIAS focuses on regulatory simplification, industry-specific investment climate issues, and investment policy and promotion. Since its establishment in 1987, FIAS has assisted over 130 countries in increasing the level and impact of private investments through more than 680 projects.
FDI Promotion Center portal, which offers investment
promotion practitioners with online access a growing collection of resources and
tools that support organizations seeking to attract and retain foreign direct
investment (FDI). The site provides information on many aspects of FDI promotion,
resources to research prospective investors, tools and best practice examples to
help structure your operations and activities, and E-learning to
develop individual skills and increase knowledge of FDI promotion methods and
tactics. FDI Promotion Center is designed to accommodate all levels of
practitioners - from novice to very experienced - and a broad range of interest areas.
Its content also helps policy makers seeking to better understand the benefits of FDI
and the institutional requirements for successful promotional efforts.
- International Trade Centre (ITC)
- ITC is the technical cooperation agency of the United
Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and
the World Trade Organization (WTO). ITC supports developing
and transition economies, and particularly their business
sector, in their efforts to realize their full potential
for developing exports and improving import operations.
Country Map
Developed by the International Trade Centre - UNCTAD/WTO,
Country Map presents profiles of 184 countries and territories
on ITC's web site. Country Map provides a wide range of
analytical tools, including the Trade Performance Index
on export competitiveness, National Export Performance and
Import Profile, the econometric trade simulation model TradeSim
on bilateral trade potential and an assessment of the reliability
and characteristics of national trade statistics. Country
Map also includes links to Trade Information Sources, Trade
Support Institutions and current ITC projects for the country
concerned.
Market Access Map
Market Access Map is an interactive online application,
presenting tariffs for 169 countries on a bilateral basis.
In addition to MFN rates, Market Access Map includes the
preferences arising out of regional, bilateral or multilateral
trade agreements as well as rules and certificates of origin.
Market Access Map enables enterprises, trade policy analysts
and trade negotiators to: identify the best market access
conditions for a product, compare one's market access conditions
to competitors; analyse protection for a sector or a region;
and simulate tariff reductions on applied or bound tariffs.
Market Access Map has been developed by the International
Trade Centre - UNCTAD/WTO in collaboration with the Centre
d'études prospectives et d'informations internationales
(CEPII), UNCTAD and WTO.
Trade Map
Trade Map is an online database, developed by the International
Trade Centre -UNCTAD/WTO. Trade Map presents global trade
flows for international business development and trade promotion,
providing detailed export and import profiles and trends
for over 5,300 products in 200 countries and territories.
Based on the world's largest database COMTRADE, Trade Map
presents import/export values and quantities, growth rates,
market shares and market access information. It allows users
to analyse markets, select priority countries for export
diversification, review the performance of competing countries
and assess opportunities for product diversification by
identifying existing and potential trade between countries.
- Investir en Zone Franc, IZF.net (in French only)
- The website "Investir en Zone Franc" : IZF.net has been created in 1998 by the 'Union Économique et
Monétaire Ouest Africaine' (UEMOA) (or in English the West African Economic and Monetary Union WAEMU) and
the 'Communauté Économique et Monétaire d'Afrique Centrale' (CEMAC), with the support of French cooperation,
in the framework of a project of investment promotion in the Zone Franc.
IZF.net provides various information in French regarding macro-economic and legal environment for investment as well as links to more than 2000 sources.
- LocationSelector
- LocationSelector is a unique web based location benchmarking platform that allows user to benchmark and rank the competitiveness of locations worldwide.
LocationSelector allows for calculating competitiveness scores and rankings, tables, graphs, time series analysis, financial analysis tools, best practices and report functions.

- LOCOmonitor, developed by OCO Consulting Ltd a global
source of information on company-level investment overseas.
LOCOmonitor has tracked foreign direct investment projects
from over 9,000 different companies worldwide. OCO Consulting
have formed an agreement with the World Bank to provide
LOCOmonitor to Least Developed Countries at a much-reduced
subscription, sponsored by MIGA.

In order to disseminate risk mitigation information and thereby facilitate foreign direct investment, MIGA has also created the Political Risk Insurance Center. The PRI-Center (www.pri-center.com) is conceived as a "one-stop" online portal for political risk insurance resources. The PRI-Center mobilizes, aggregates and disseminates knowledge on political risk management issues, in partnership with other organizations - all free of charge. The PRI-Center aims to be a neutral, industry-specific marketplace that enables private and public sector insurers, brokers, investors, as well as the academic community, to share their perspectives and knowledge on political risk management. - OECD FDI Statistics
- Within the framework of its mandate, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development publishes aggregated data on FDI for its 30 member countries. The OECD also
publishes studies and technical paper on FDI related issues.
- UNCTAD
- Established in 1964, UNCTAD promotes the development-friendly
integration of developing countries into the world economy.
The organization carries out three key functions: it functions
as a forum for intergovernmental deliberations; it undertakes
research, policy analysis and data collection for the debates
of government representatives and experts; and it provides
technical assistance tailored to the specific requirements
of developing countries.
The Division on Investment, Technology and Enterprise Development (DITE)
prepares one of UNCTAD's flagship publications - the World Investment Report. It also
undertakes a number of core activities involving international investment agreements,
investment statistics, investment policy reviews, capacity building in investment
promotion, technology for development, accounting and enterprise internationalisation.
The Division also contributes to various cross-sectoral issues within UNCTAD,
especially as regards least developed countries (LDCs) and Africa.
The Division also maintains several websites on Foreign Direct Investment Statistics,
such as the FDI database or the World Investment Directory on-line. The most
frequently used data are available free of charge.
FDI database
After Free Registration, a user can have access to data on FDI Flows and Stock,
Cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions, and Investment Treaties. The database covers
information on all countries since 1970 (since 1980 for FDI stock, and 1981 for
cross-border M&As). Data is searchable by country and year. Graph and extraction
functions are available too.
Investment Compass
Specially designed for policy advocacy in developing countries, the Investment Compass is an interactive
tool developed by UNCTAD for analysing the main economic and policy determinants that
affect the investment environment. The Investment Compass permits comparisons between
countries, between a country and a region, and between a country and a best performer.
The tool comprises 60 indicators based on international statistics and on special
national surveys conducted by UNCTAD.
Investment Gateway
The Investment Gateway is an online content management system for the exchange of
information among parties involved in the investment process. The country specific
gateways contain: investment opportunities; information on potential investors;
the investment conditions; and organized information and contacts for technical
assistance to support and facilitate the investment process. The Investement Gateway
is developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development UNCTAD, under a
technical assistance project financed by the government of Switzerland. For more

Investment
Policy Review Series
The UNCTAD Investment Policy Reviews cover a number of
developing countries and are intended to help countries
improve their investment policies and to familiarize Governments
and the international private sector with an individual
country's investment environment. It is hoped that the analysis
and recommendations contained in the Reviews will contribute
to an improvement of policies, promote awareness of investment
opportunities and serve as a catalyst for increased investment
into these countries.
World Investment Directory on-line
Includes FDI Country profiles in pdf format for more than 110 countries and territories.
Each FDI Profile contains extensive data on FDI flows and stocks activities of TNCs, the
legal framework within each country/economy, including legislation relating to bilateral
treaties that govern national investment. Deep links to those profiles are included in
Investment Map.
World
Investment Report
The World Investment Report has been published annually
by UNCTAD since 1991. Each year's Report covers: the latest
trends in FDI during the previous year, with especial emphasis
on the development implications; the ranking of the largest
transnational corporations in the world; in-depth analysis
of a selected topic related to FDI; and policy analysis
and recommendations. For example The World Investment Report
2004 explores the shift towards services, with a special
analysis of offshoring service activities. The report includes
a statistical annex, which is also available on CD-ROM.

- UN
Statistics Division
- The United Nations Statistics Division, UNSD, compiles
statistics from many international sources and produces
global updates, including the Statistical Yearbook, World
Statistics Pocketbook and yearbooks in specialized fields
of statistics. Unrestricted free access is provided to selected
global datasets, such as the Millennium Indicators Database.
- WAIPA
- The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies
(WAIPA) was established in 1995 and is registered as a non-governmental
organization (NGO) in Geneva, Switzerland. WAIPA acts as
a forum for investment promotion agencies (IPAs) to provide
networking opportunities and facilitate the exchange of
best practices in investment promotion. Membership is open
to all agencies whose prime function is to promote any country
or territory for investment.
- WCO
- The World Customs Organisation, WCO is an independent
intergovernmental body, whose mission is to enhance the
effectiveness and efficiency of customs administrations.
It has 159 member governments and is located in Brussels,
Belgium.
- WTO
- The World Trade Organization, WTO is the only global international
organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations.
At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed
by the bulk of the world's trading nations and ratified
in their parliaments. The goal is to help producers of goods
and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.
